Many times we have been asked by friends and family who have foreign visitors that want to travel around the city. We arrange trips for them very often. And here is how an ideal itinerary would start.
This page is only about Bangkok tour. Whether your vacation in Bangkok is one day long or one week long, you can find your way around and stay overnight in Bangkok, and your traveling time to any of the destinations of interest cannot be more than 2-3 hours from the city. We have started by putting the most important day in the beginning. Therefore, you may rank the days in the order of your preference.
Ideal Itinerary for Bangkok Tour
Bangkok Tour: Day 1
Visiting the Grand Palace is a must do activity for early morning. At the earliest, you can start at 8.30 a.m. Then, take a ride on the motor taxi boat to see how Bangkok people live along the canal and river banks. After that, maybe stroll around The Grand Palace area, where you can visit more temples at Wat Pho (temple of Reclining Buddha) and Wat Aroon (temple of Dawn). At the end, walk through the flower market, one of the busiest markets in town. See people making garlands and traditional Thai flower set called bai sri and pong ma lai.
Night tour, if you still have energy: Visit the Jo Louise puppet show, a rare to see event and the most beautiful puppet show in Thailand. This show is highly recommended. After the show, you can walk along the wonderful night bazaar, where over a hundred shops, beer gardens and restaurants are located inside.
Bangkok Tour : Day 2
Spend your morning by visiting Wat Trimirt. Then, walk to China town area. Explore the small alley where food, ingredients of Chinese food and fruits are sold along the sidewalk. You may try some snack or stop by the golden jewelry shops, if you like. In the afternoon, visit the museum in Jim Thomson's house for a short tour and for shopping of the most famous Thai silk product, the brand of which was named after Mr. Jim Thomson.
Night tour, if you cannot sleep: Go to a night show in town as per your choice, such as Calypso Show, Lady Boy Show, or Thai Boxing.
Bangkok Tour : Day 3
Week-end only
Take a break from busy city life by visiting the Lampraya Floating Market, which is open only at weekends. The market is in open air, and is nice and clean. You will see lush green views of the rice fields, taro farm, and chilli plantation along the way. Then, head to the bridge on the river Kwai to see the historic route of the prisoners of World War II. Of course, this famous bridge was built during World War II and is well known as the Bridge on the river Kwai.
Week-day
Visit the Damnean Saduak Floating Market. To taste yummy food, fruit and dessert, and have fun on the rolling boat are the most recommended activities.
Night tour : A visit to a nice restaurant or the sea food market is highly recommended.
Bangkok Tour : Day 4
Visit the ancient city of Ayutthaya to see the temple ruins, where the former capital city is located. Many tour operators provide various interesting tour programs for visitors. Here are three choices that we would propose for your tour:
Relaxing : Travel by tourist coach and return by cruise
History tour : Spend more time in Ayutthaya by car, visit as many temples and historical museums as you prefer.
Adventure by bike : Travel to Ayutthaya by train. Ride a bike around the ancient city. Experience some adventure by sky lap car around the town. Then return to Bangkok by local transportation.
Bangkok Tour : Day 5
A day in Bangkok: Explore Bangkok on foot.
If at weekend:
Visit Weekend Market, the biggest market in Thailand with about 3,000 shops in one complex. Buy some Thai art, products and enjoy the nicely decorated shops. In the afternoon, you may go to the Thai Boxing Show, which is crowded with a lot of Thai people, and enjoy some great fighting!
If on a week day:

Bangkok Tour: Day 6
Spend a day outside of Bangkok at the famous national park named Khao Yai. Here, you have a choice between taking a private trekking tour through the tropical forest, or going on a joint tour to visit various local places and activities, such as local market, ox cart riding or visiting the waterfall.
Bangkok Tour: Day 7
In case you have not visited the Khanchanaburi province yet, today you should visit this province for an ideal trip to many World War II historical sites, such as the Bridge over the river Kwai. Then take a ride on the scenic train and visit the Hell Fire Pass.
Other option: In the afternoon, go to the most famous tiger temple, where real life tigers are living in the temple compound.
Bangkok Tour: Day 8
A good day to start to learn about Thai cooking, take a short course about cooking Thai food. Then, simply enjoy your own cooking at the end of the tour.
