Travel to the majestic mountains of Chiang Rai Thailand

Chiang Rai, the most northern province of Thailand is about 785 kilometers north of Bangkok. This town was founded in 1262 by King Meng Rai before the King moved to Chiang Mai. But the city was considered as a major city of Lanna kingdom (former name of Chiang Mai).

Chiang Rai lies in the very heart of the Golden Triangle and is particularly famed for its majestic mountains and many high-altitude hill tribe villages. The name golden Triangle is because this is where the boarders of Thailand, Burma, and Laos convene to form the Golden Triangle. It is also where the two great rivers are adjoined; the two rivers are the Mekong and Salawin River. This city is also the gate into Indo-China and the Yunan Province in the south of China.

While on your tour you must stop to visit the main market area, here you are sure to find many great gifts. Visit Wat Phra Kaew, where the famous Emerald Buddha (in Bangkok) was found in A.D. 1434. The Emerald Buddha has a long history and is said to have originally resided in ANGKOR WAT.
