Koh Samet : Island of Tropical Paradise: Geography
Samet is located in the east of Thailand and 3 hours from Bangkok by private car. After a 30 - minute boat ride from the mainland, you will reach the tropical paradise.
**Koh Samet is part of the Marine National Park, therefore every foreign visitor needs to pay 400 Baht as admission fee. |
Koh Samet : Island of Tropical : For Whom?
For those who love natural beauty, this is the place for you. This island does not offer any crazy activities at night as a major beach town. There are just simple things that you can enjoy here. For example, you can expect a swim in the crystal clear warm sea water, lie on a fine sand beach, take a sun bath, read your favorite book and perhaps ride a motorcycle on the road which is in the same condition as the road on the moon (very rough and certainly not recommend ed for anyone who has just eaten! ). |

How many beached does Koh Semet has?
There are over 12 beautiful beaches in Koh Samet. On the west side is a beach named Ao Phrao. There are fewer beaches on the east side of the island. Every beach is different. There is a very long beach and a private beach , which is mainly a short beachfront about 200-300 meters in length . However, most of the beaches are very nice with fine sand, no rocks and without slopes . They are very good for swimming.
Guide recommendation beach.
If you are looking for a fun beach with a lot of activities , Sai Keaw Beach would be a perfect choice . It has 7&11 departmental store , grocery shops, police station, hotels and banks. Oops, sorry! We are talking about something fun , right ? OK ! There are tour counter s for snorkeling, scuba diving shops and many service s on the beach . For details, click here.
|
 |
There are also bars , pubs with live music band, sea food restaurants obviously and motorbike AV rental booth. This beach is convenient for go ing around. But certainly it is not recommended for those who like to stay in quiet places . However , if you pick the right hand side of the beach, it is quieter than the other side because there are no bars and pubs.
Ao Chor and Ao Wong Duan
These two beaches are next to one another. Ao Chor is smaller than Ao Wong Duan. At Ao Chor, there is one resort and 1-2 guesthouses, which are nice and quiet. Ao Wong Duan has more guesthouses and one nice resort. There is also a grocery shop, pub and restaurant at Ao Wong Duan , which means that Ao Wong Duan is more crow ded than Ao Chor.
|
 |
Therefore, I think it is a good idea to stay at a beautiful resort in Ao Chor and walk to Wong Duan for some activities. This way, you will stay at a private beach and enjoy nightlife .
Why is this island my favorite?
I have been visiting here since I was a junior in University. Back then, I used to stay at the Ao phro resort, which was an interesting place to spend a lot of time with my girlfriends. We swam in early morning and in the evening for about 2-3 hours a day. The picture of the curvy beach is still in my memory.
Koh Samet impresses many people. One of her charms is that there are no skyline building s to obstruct the natural view. Although m any people complain about the road , I really don't mind the condition it is in . I cannot imagine how different things will be once the road conditions are changed.
Koh Samet : Favorite Restaurant
| A r estaurant called Ploy at Sai Keaw Beach serves food on the beach like many beachfront restaurants. The difference is that a live band performs there , starting at 8.00 pm, and the food is very fresh and quite reasonably priced . My favorite dish is Yam Wonsen b ecause they make it very hot ; my friend and I ended up hav ing it for 2 dishes. The d essert here is superb! We had tapioca with black bean in coconut milk. |
 |
In Thai , we call it sakoo toa dam. The coconut milk is very fresh and not too sweet. After we ate that , our energy level rose suddenly.
Next day, my friend and I went to Ploy Samed Restaurant for lunch. This place is special for its design and decoration. Here, they have converted a fisherman 's house into a restaurant. Table tops are made up of mirror. There are no chairs, so you need to put your legs in an empty area , where the floor is cut into square shape. When people are sitting on this table setting, they can see their legs and the school of fish in the water. How cool! They mainly serve seafood. The food is good , although more expansive than at normal restaurants . But it is worth visiting if you like to see something different. |
 |
A wide range of accommodations are available at Koh Samet.
We have observed several resorts. Le Vimarn and Samet Grand View have the most beautiful rooms . Samed Cabana and Sai Keaw Beach resort offer a nice atmosphere. A perfectly private beach is at Ao Chor Grand View. The most luxurious resort is Paradee. Click each place to see more picture s and read reviews .

When is a good time to visit Koh Samet?
You can visit Koh Samed all year round. However, you need to be careful during the monsoon season (May-August), as there may be some rain or storm. As you know, due to global warming, the weather is always changing. So t he monsoon may come early or later. The weather cannot be guaranteed . However, I personally like monsoon the most, as I do not like the sunshine. Nevertheless, the sea always looks beautiful to me, whether it rains or not.
How long should I (You) stay?
You should have at least three days for visiting this island , since traveling may take away 5-6 hours , including boat service. However, if taking a private bus or private boat, it may take just 3-4 hours of your traveling time.
