   Cutting a crescent around Pattaya Bay, the city's main beach is a peninsula of basting suntanned flesh, souvenir stalls and sand castles. The coconut scent of suntan oil hangs in the air, and a knot of high-rise hotels, dive shops, and golf courses cater to the legions.

   Pattaya being the nearest city to Bangkok with beaches whips up a seedy, summer cocktail enjoyed by more than a million visitors per year. It's more Costa del Bangkok than authentic Thailand that is enjoy by tourists and local Thai's.

   The best time to visit Pattaya is two days after the Thai New Year April 13. That is the time of Songkran the water festival; this is where local Thai's and tourist alike enjoy a celebration by throwing water on each other to celebrate the New Year, this is coupled with just having plain old fun and cooling off in the hot weather. To avoid this festival if you do not the crowd.

   Pattaya has much to offer, good beaches, islands offshore, diving, sailing and its many golf courses are just a few of the activities visitors can enjoy. A place for the whole family, an escape from the whirl of the "cosmopolitan" world's left behind, a place one can really relax!
