Thailand historical site.: Phanom Rung sanctuary

Phanom Rung sanctuary was built on the top of volcanic mountain. This Khmer sanctuary or Prasat is made up of pink sandstone which is consider as one of most beautiful places in Thailand by it proportion and the beautiful scene which can be seen from the top of the mountain.

Phanom Rung Historical Park is one of the most diverse national parks and certainly one of the most important and most visited Khmer sites in Thailand. The first thing visitors see when they arrive at the site is the grand stairway from the foot of the hill up to the top. Most of the buildings of the sanctuary were made of laetrile and sandstone, all with elaborate designs.

Phanom Rung sanctuary

It was build between the 10th and 13th century to symbolize the stay of Shiva(Hindu God) on the holy mountain Kailash. The temple complex faces east, towards the original capital of Angkor. Phanom Rung was originally built as a Hindu monument. The setting of this sanctuary is quite scenic, with views of the countryside all around.

The best time to visit is during april 13, Thai new year.
