The Art of Fighting : Thai Boxing

Thai Boxing By Guide Eng

About Thai kick Boxing

The national sport of Thailand is well known as Thai Boxing. In Thai, people call it “Muay Thai”. The kick boxing allows the boxer to use punch, knee, elbow, arms, and legs for fighting. Most of the boxers are of medium weight or light weight, since they have to be fast and flexible to move. And Thai men are trained to be of smaller size, so it is hard to find a heavy-weight boxer.

History of Thai Boxing

The Thai Boxing was originally derived from the military. When soldiers had to fight during the war, they were trained in this art of fighting, which emphasized the use of body as a natural weapon. Hands and arms can be used when close to the opponent. Legs can be used for distance fight.

World Boxing and Thai Boxing

In regular boxing, only punching is allowed, and the boxer will get scores for punching the target or knocking it down. But Thai Boxing uses more free style, and the score can be added when the target is punched and kicked. Points can also be scored when the boxer has a better technique – one that is of a higher standard than the opponent's, which is capable of hurting the opponent.

What makes Thai Boxing in Thailand different from other places?

The weight and the size of the boxer cannot determine who will be the winner, because something unexpected might always happen. Therefore, it is a very popular place for gamble. And it is very exiting to see who is going to win.

Boxing is the kind of sport that is not fake. When you hear a punch or a kick, it is real. And you know how strong the boxer is, based on his ability to tolerate the pain.

Some audiences use creative voice, jump or scream, which is very rare to see in other sports. And it is the color of the stadium as well interesting!

What about our opinion?

As for me, I am not a real fan of Thai Boxing. But I'd love to have everyone see it and help to extend their life. At present, it is a decline period of Thai boxing inside the country, but the opposite is true for the outside, or for other countries, such as Japan and America. There are many reasons for the decline in Thailand; to mention a few, no fighter becomes a star or a popular icon for teenagers. However, I still remember my last visits to the Thai Boxing Stadium; it is still fresh on my mind, and I am sure those who watch Thai Boxing will remember this sport for a long time as well.
